Fire Breaks Out in Rockaway Township Home

A fire broke out at a home on Meggins Road in Rockaway Township, New Jersey, on Saturday, February 25th, at around 10 p.m. The Rockaway Fire Department reported that no one was injured. However, one of the family dogs died. The fire started in the kitchen, though the cause of the fire has not yet been revealed.

Jennifer Gares, her daughter, and her two-year-old granddaughter lost their home and belongings in the fire. Community member Tucker Kelley set up a GoFundMe page to help the family with food, shelter, clothing, and other immediate needs. Clothes, diapers, checks, and gift cards are also being collected at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on 508 Greenpond Road.

Kelley mentioned housing would be needed; the family stays with friends outside the Lake Telemark community. He also noted that Jennifer Gares has always donated to help those in need in the community during other tragedies. The family’s GoFundMe page has a $10,000 goal; as of Monday morning, it had raised more than $7,000.
